Run Into Spring is a program designed to get you outdoors all year long, as we train through the winter for the 2010 Shamrock 1/2 marathon in Sacramento. Running is not a sport with allocated seasons. Luckily, we can train around the calendar, in all weather. Run Into Spring allows you to start the year off on the right foot, literally, with a healthy way to shed some holiday pounds, AND get fit at the same time.
This program is geared for beginner to intermediate runners and 1st time marathonners. Training will continue after March for those who wish to continue on to a full marathon, such as the San Diego Rock and Roll marathon in May 2010.
The thrill of finishing your first marathon or 1/2 marathon is something you will NEVER forget. It's special and will be marked by months of commitment and effort that will take your body and mind beyond anything you have done before.
You will not make the journey alone. You will be in good company with many others with the same goals, the same doubts and misgivings, and together you'll face the same challenges. Live For It All's Coach Abby can provide you with a fun group of other runners to train with. You will safely build your mileage to be ready to reach your goal!
What is this program, and who can join?
This program begins January 16th through March 14th. We will meet on Saturday mornings at 8:00am as we RUN INTO SPRING! It is open to ALL in the Sacramento area from 18 years old to seniors. (Teens under 18 are welcome to join with a parent). You'll get mentoring along the way from your coach, monthly newsletters, and EDUCATIONAL SEMINARS prior to each long training run! Seminars will be on topics such as running nutrition, proper attire, running in the winter, injury prevention, and so much more! This is one value you cannot find anywhere else! You will be guided each and every step of the way. Each Saturday, we'll meet for our long training run as a group. Then you will follow the training schedule on your own thoughout the week for your 2-3 shorter runs. We meet on Saturdays near the corner of H and 56th St. in East Sacramento at Tupelo's Coffee Shop (restrooms). This location is close to trails and running routes. Not every run will be on the same trail! (There is so much more to see than just one trail!).
Am I fit enough?
YES! this program is for beginners, and intermediate runners with a LSD (Long, Slow, Distance) pace of 9-14 minute miles. Please have a 3 mile running base prior to the program's start date.
How do I prepare for the Marathon or 1/2 marathon program?
If you are a novice runner, the safest, most efficient way to prepare to train for a marathon is to participate in 5 Weeks to 5k. (the final program before Run Into Spring begins on OCt 24th), but individual training is always available. That program will help you build up your distance and provide you with a sturdy running base from which to build! Check out the 5 Weeks to 5k page for start dates. Email Abby if you have any questions about whether or not you feel ready and prepared to begin 1/2 marathon training. Our first Run Into Spring slow, long distance training run will be approximatley 4 miles. 5 Weeks to 5k Page.
