2011 Marathon and 1/2 Marathon Training Program!
**SAN FRANCISCO MARATHON AND HALF MARATHONS**

~Take the First Step... Go the Distance~

*GET IN SHAPE*
*LOSE WEIGHT*
*GAIN ENERGY*
*ACHIEVE A DREAM*
*26.2*13.1*

You are reading this because you are at least considering doing your first marathon - or you are coming back for another one. The marathon is not to be taken lightly. You will have family, friends, co-workers and others who will say the body is not designed to run that far. You will be entering an arena where few venture. Less than .1% of the population run a marathon. You will be joining a very elite company and you will experience a "victory" more timid souls will never know. The thrill of finishing your first marathon is something you will NEVER forget. It's special and will be marked by over four months of commitment and effort that will take your body and mind beyond anything you have done before.

You will not make the journey alone. You will be in good company with many others with the same goals, the same doubts and misgivings, and together you'll face the same challenges. Live For It All's Coach Abby can provide you with a fun group of other runners to train with. You will safely build your mileage to be ready to reach your goal!

What is this program, and who can join?
This program is 17-week training program that begins April 9, 2011, starting at 7:30am. It is open to ALL in the Sacramento/Roseville/Vacaville area from 18 years old to seniors. (Teens under 18 are welcome to join with a parent). You'll get mentoring along the way from your coach, monthly newsletters, and EDUCATIONAL SEMINARS prior to each long training run! Seminars will be on topics such as running nutrition, proper attire, injury prevention, and so much more! This is one value you cannot find anywhere else! You will be guided each and every step of the way. Each Saturday morning, we'll meet for our long training run as a group. Then you will follow the training schedule on your own thoughout the week for your 2-3 shorter runs. We meet on most Saturdays near the corner of H and 56th St. in East Sacramento at Tupelo's Coffee Shop (restrooms). This location is close to trails and running routes in Sacramento. Not every run will be on the same trail! (There is so much more to see than just one trail!).

*New this year, every 3rd Saturday of the month, we will meet at Pena Adobe Park in Vacaville, CA (just 40 minutes west of Sacramento right off of 80) to do our hill training on our long runs. Also, walkers are welcome to train with us for the 1/2 marathon as long as a 16 minute mile can be maintained*

We will train for the San Francisco 1/2 Marathon and Full Marathon on July 31, 2011: The San Francisco Marathon Website

Am I fit enough?
YES! this program is for beginners, and intermediate runners with a pace of 9-14 minute miles, or walkers with a pace faster than 16 minutes per mile. Please have a 2-3 mile base prior to the program's start date. The SF Marathon, as per its location, has many hills, and we will be adequately prepared. Abby will host several "hill running" clinics throughout the training that you may attend for free.

How do I prepare for the Marathon or 1/2 marathon program?
If you are a novice runner, the safest, most efficient way to prepare to train for a marathon is to participate in 5 Weeks to 5k. That program will help you build up your distance and provide you with a sturdy running base from which to build! Check out the 5 Weeks to 5k page for start dates. Email Abby if you have any questions about whether or not you feel ready and prepared to begin marathon training. Our first slow, long distance training run will be approximatley 3.5 miles. 5 Weeks to 5k Page.
